SIM-RMIT Student Council held its semi-annual Freshman Orientation Camp on the 21st to 22nd June 2018 to welcome a new batch of freshmen. It has been a tradition since 2011 and is one of the highlights of SIM-RMITSC.
What does ‘Athenatos’ stands for?
Athenatos was derived from the Greek word ‘immortal’. It was inspired by Norse Mythology hence, the story line was closely related to Yggdrasil: The Tree of Life. Groups were named after the Gods and Goddesses.
Background Story
The World Tree: Yggdrasil held Athenatos, giving it balance which allowed for peace and prosperity. It was revealed that ‘Mischief’, a legend had stole the heart of Yggdrasil which brought chaos and destruction to the world. Twelve Gods and Goddesses came together to defeat the forces of ‘Mischief’, restoring peace and balance and the strongest would be given the honor to guard the heart of Yggdrasil
Camp was planned 2 months in advance by the Orientation Planning Team (OPT) – from deriving the theme and crafting creative bonding games, right down to the execution level on the camp day itself.
The games required campers to use their creativity and endurance to perform given tasks. The activities helped to bond new friendships and allowed campers to overcome obstacles and foster greater camaraderie.

Apart from that, the incessant rain on a Friday morning did not hamper the campers’ spirit to enjoy the camp. With all 12 teams present, campers sang songs at the top of their voices, engaged in physically strenuous activities but most importantly they had fun, which was evident on their tired but smiling faces during the prize giving ceremony. It was really heartwarming to see everyone encouraging each other to not give up.
Truly this camp strives to bring out strong values in sportsmanship among the campers which will contribute to lifelong qualities. It touched the councilors' hearts to see campers being able to foster close knit friendships and having fun together. Lastly, the orientation planning team of Camp Athenatos would like to thank everyone who gave and helped make this camp a success. We hope you had a memorable time and enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!
