Blood Donation Drive 2018

Most of us have probably stumbled upon blood donation drives throughout our lives. These events, typically conducted by the Singapore Red Cross Society, are organised in hopes of encouraging people to give back to the society by donating their own blood. In fact, it is a form of charity – one that can arguably be more valuable than monetary donations.

A ‘painless’ experience

One of the possible reasons people are not forthcoming on blood donation may be caused by fear. This includes the fear of needles, getting weaker, etc.

However, recent technological advancements have evolved the way blood drives are carried out. Procedures are now cleaner, faster, and better. Using sterile equipment to introduce a local anaesthesia (Lignocaine) into the injection site, the blood-drawing needle is then inserted into the veins, painlessly. When asked about the pain level of blood donors, many of them were surprised that it did not hurt at all.

Moreover, it now takes only 45 minutes to go through the entire process of donating blood. All you need to do is to:

1. Fill-up Indemnity Forms (5 mins) 2. Registration (5 mins) 3. Medical Screening (10~15 mins)

4. Haemoglobin Check (5 minutes)

5. Blood Donation (10~15 mins)

6. Rest and Refreshment (15 mins)

...and voilà! You have effectively saved three lives.

Live Performances

While our donors were filling up the forms and registering, our talented councillors from SIM-RMIT Student Council amped up the atmosphere with live performances on-stage.

A successful blood donation drive

On behalf of the community and blood donation recipients, SIM-RMIT Student Council would like to thank the donors for benevolently donating their blood to save lives.

Lastly, a huge shout-out to the Singapore Red Cross Society, SIM-RMIT’s Community Involvement Team, and our student councillors for helping a good cause and making this event a huge success.
